COFFEE TABLE
2012
We have long been interested in a form of minimalism where what you see is what you get, where the design is achieved with the fewest possible parts. Often, minimalism is only apparent, sustained by concealed structure and technical complexity in service of a reduced image.
The Rigmarole Coffee Table is conceived as a timeless object, using standard processes such as laser cutting and brake pressing. Formed from a single sheet of aluminium, it pushes this logic to its limit. The stacked version emerged directly from the dies already present on the fabricator’s factory floor, aligning the design with the constraints and opportunities of available tooling.
Natural aluminium is relatively soft and will develop a patina of scratches, dents and marks over time. This is understood as a positive quality, with the surface improving through use, while remaining easy to refinish with an orbital sander.
For those who prefer a more uniform, “MacBook-like” finish, an anodised version is also available. Anodising increases surface hardness significantly, improving resistance to abrasion and wear. In practice, tables subjected to years of heavy use show only minor signs of ageing.
The result is a highly resilient object, where durability is embedded in both material and process, and where time is registered as use rather than deterioration.
The range is offered in any colour of the anodising range,
