AESOP BÄRENGASSE
2011 | ZURICH | SWITZERLAND
‘Inside the space, a mesmerising trapeze of variously sized cork blocks captures an essence of optimism and curiosity, reflecting the boundless geometric possibilities contained within.’
Aesop Bärengasse showcases the creative use of a single material: cork. The design concept revolves around the notion of a cork whole from which the interior has been carved out, creating a texturally rich and audibly captivating environment. To preserve the store's vertical qualities and further enhance its allure, the consultation counter and large custom cork light boxes are suspended from the soaring five-metre-high ceiling.
Inside the space, a mesmerising trapeze of variously sized cork blocks captures an essence of optimism and curiosity, reflecting the boundless geometric possibilities contained within.
A touch of refinement and elegance is added to the cork ensemble through the addition of three exquisite Benjamin Hubert cork pendant light fixtures and a hand-painted matte gold ceiling, infusing the space with a warm and sophisticated glow.
An elongated black steel trough provides a bold counterpoint to the density of natural material, as the rows of product adopt their usual role of foregrounding the interior’s careful consideration of display. The store's distinctive character not only celebrates the inherent beauty of cork but also fosters an immersive shopping experience that reinforces the aspiration of a sustainable tomorrow.
